United Hit For Six In Derby
Dan Heron grabbed his second hat-trick in a row to give Waders an emphatic victory in the Biggleswade
derby on Wednesday. Tow up at the break, Town’s strikeforce fired on all cylinders in the second half
to secure a comfortable win to maintain a four point lead at the top of the table.
It was always going to be a tough fixture for United, and missing several key players through injury
and illness made the trick even trickier. Despite this there was little to choose between the two sides
in the opening quarter of the game. United’s Robbie O’Dell probably had the best chance early on when he
got round the back but his effort was cleared off the line.
Waders had chances of their own too and they grabbed the all-important first goal on 26 minutes. Great
work from Jamie Steele saw him cross for Heron to convert at the far post.
They netted a killer second just before half time and it came via a brilliant move involving Heron, Steele
and Chris Hewitt, Steele finishing off with s shot from inside the box that took a deflection.
Waders began the second period at McMullen Park with the conditions now in their favour and they exerted
their authority. The third duly arrived on 54 minutes, Steele finishing after United keeper, Adam Lawrence,
had misjudged the ball. Within two minutes they were 4-0 up, Heron turning and scoring from a long throw in.
Heron wrapped up his hat-trick, and his 23rd of the season, when he pulled away from the defender after
excellent work from Jack Weeden. Keith Thomas completed the rout with a late header.
