Heavy loss was harsh
The result was harsh on United who created some good chances in the first half although they did little
after the break. The scoreline suggests Tring were well on top, but during the first half only some superb
saves from Michael Lavender and the woodwork prevented the visitors scoring a few themselves.
Despite the difficult conditions both teams played some nice football and didn’t resort to route one
tactics. Early on Ty North his a fierce shot which United keeper Adam Lawrence pushed out. United weathered
the early storm and showed their attacking intent. Jake Goodship headed a cross from Simon Catmur well wide
then Robbie O’Dell beat the offside trap and knocked the ball past Lavender but it ran out of play.
In the 20th minute the deadlock was broken when Danny Gray struck homea shot from outside the box. Craig
Rydeheard hit the bar again and that was followed by a header from Jason Darvall.
In the 31st minute Gray grabbed his second and on half time Chris Salmon’s header was saved but the
linesman signalled that it was over the line for 3-0.
After the break Tring took control. Phil Otum fired in a shot cum cross from an acute angle for the fourth,
Daren Caseman shot past the keeper to make it five and Gray secured his hat-trick for 6-0.
Despite the situation United perked up and enjoyed a good spell. In the 79th minute they were awarded
were awarded a free kick and although the kick struck the wall the ball fell to Goodship who took his
chance to strike a good shot home.
But with time up Lawrence dropped a corner into his own net to make the final score 7-1.
